Rabbi Josh Whinston

In the last few days, I’ve heard murmurings from members getting their seder cooking in order. Chicken soup and some of those side dishes are already made and being frozen. I don’t want to raise anyone’s anxiety; my own menu isn’t even set yet, but I know others do these things well in advance. Even if we prepare for Passover in the same old way we always have, we all know this Passover will be different. Most of us won’t be able to think of anything else but the captives in Gaza, and others will be wondering if we’ve become Pharaoh. I encourage you, especially if there are different points of view at the table, not to be like Pharoah and not to “harden your hearts” to those different points of view. Regardless of where we stand on the Israel/Hamas war, we are all coming to our respective places from pain and sadness.

Most importantly for our community, we need more seder hosts. Please let us know if you have room for one, two, or more people at your seder table. Our Haggadah implores us to let all who are hungry come and eat. Don’t let a Jewish member of our community go without a seder this year. There will be guests from our community at my seder table, I hope there will be at yours as well. If you can host please contact Beth Pearson (bethlpearson@gmail.com) and let her know.

Finally, you may be looking for supplements for your seder this year. Here are three supplements I’ve come across in the last few days and I am sure there will be more next week. We will send out an updated list if we find more.
